Review:
A View From The Shuttlecraft
The Xindi - Spoilers Involved
I did
not get to see the season-ender last spring. I am, however, very pleased with
the season three opener. The change in beat and accompaniment to the words of
the theme was a pleasant surprise. I wonder that this version was not used from
the beginning. But changing the theme somewhat is nothing new to the Star Trek
line. The theme to "Deep Space Nine" was also changed after several years and
did reflect a change in the direction of the show.
I am glad to see that
the Captain Archer I saw in the very first episode of "Enterprise" has returned.
I enjoyed Archer up to this point but now that strength has returned in force.
The man who said, "You have no idea how much I’m restraining myself from
knocking you on your ass!" is back again.
The action in this story was
compelling. Some of the plot twists were predictable-some were not. Going down
when trying to escape the plasma flow was a different take – in my view, the
natural instinct would be to go up. The tension between Reed and Major Hayes was
expected, as Reed said himself, but was played well, setting up more possible
conflict in the future.
The interaction between T’Pol and Trip is
interesting and could go in many directions. It is an interesting way to bring
the two together and a very flexible one as far as plot line is concerned. I do
take some exception to T’Pol’s disrobing. While she had more reason to do it, I
don’t see that it was absolutely necessary. It must be a guy thing in the
episodes. I did like T’Pol asking Trip if he was accusing her of sexual
harassment. It is also fun to see her in more than two colors of
uniform.
Note: As a fan of "JAG", it’s nice to know why Steven Culp
hasn’t been on many episodes of that show. Another Bellisario connection to the
show (the others being Scott Bakula, Jolene Blalock and Anthony Montgomery,
etc.)
Great lines: "Sewage takes on a whole new meaning when it comes
from a dozen different species."
